Diamond Carat

Diamonds are measured by their weight in carats!

Carob seeds were the original unit of measure for diamond traders. Today, diamonds are weighed with extreme precision and weights are stated in carats, abbreviated to ct. Each carat is subdivided into 100 equal parts called “points”. One point is equal to .01 carat. This means that one full carat diamond has 100 points.  A carat is equal to exactly 0.2 grams.

If the diamond weight is above one carat the weight is measured in decimals.

1ct diamonds are not as common as you may think! It is estimated that a single 1ct diamond exists for every 10,000 pounds of diamonds mined.
